There are many magic societies around the world, but none of them are as highly respected as THE Magic Circle. I emphasize ‘the‘ because there is only one of them. If you ask a magician if they are part of the magic circle, and they give you a less then convincing yes, they are probably a member of one of the many regional circles around the country. There’s nothing wrong with this. I have been a member of the “Sheffield Circle of Magicians” since I was 18 (youngest ever member). There are literally hundreds of regional magic groups around the UK, but none of them come with the same level of respect as “The Magic Circle”.
Everyone has heard of The Magic Circle. How many of you know about The Bristol Society Magic?
To join “The Magic Circle”, you need to be nominated by two current and highly respected members. This in itself is enough to deter many amateur magicians. Following nomination, you are invited for an examination. This involves performing a routine to members of the council, and any other members who want to come along to watch the torture! After all of this, you will be told if you are worthy of membership. I’m happy to report that I was accepted on my first attempt.
Anyone who is serious about performing quality magic should be a member of The Magic Circle. Those that have ‘made the grade’ like to tell people about it! So, when considering which magician to choose, make sure that you can see this logo on their website …
If it’s not there, ask yourself why!
And while you are doing this detective work, another logo to look out for is this …
