I’m often asked how I got started in magic. The actual beginning isn’t very unique. My dad showed me a card trick when I was about six, then I got hooked on various magic sets and magic books. Lots of kids go through a stage of interest in magic. My journey was just like those until I met the man in the video at the bottom of this page.
His name is Roger Curzon. When I was 13 years old, he was the magic demonstrator at “Magick”. This is the shop in Sheffield that is to blame for my passion and Roger was the man who got me hooked.
To a 13-year-old kid, the sleight of hand that Roger Curzon showed was out of this world. The things that he could do with a deck of cards and a few coins would repeatedly melt mind. It wasn’t until my mid-20s that I found out that Roger Curzon was no ordinary magic demonstrator. I had been taught by one of the very best sleight of hand magicians in the country!
Roger is now 73 years old. A couple of years ago, he was suffering badly from Carpal tunnel syndrome. His response to this was to put together a brand new card routine, to exercise his hands. In the process of practising the routine, he cured himself of Carpal tunnel.
Roger is not one for ‘showbiz’, and he doesn’t need misdirection to hide ‘moves’. The clip below is just one shot and the camera doesn’t leave his hands. This is the routine that he put together to combat his carpel tunnel. Watch what a 73 your old magician can do with a lifetime of practice …
Chick on the video above to play it.
