I am often asked:
Do tricks ever go wrong?
I could put on my mystical expression (if I had one) and say “No, the magic is ubiquitous”.
Or I could be honest.
YES! Of course tricks go wrong! It’s quite rare to be honest, but I love it when it happens. It’s just funny! The effects I perform professionally have been performed hundreds of times. New material is tried and tested before it is introduced. So, on the rare occasion that it all goes wrong, I’m usually leading the laughter. And if I laugh about it, everyone else sees the funny side too. And I always know how to get things back on track. I’ve never left an audience knowing how something was done. If I made a mistake or they figured something out, I make it my personal mission to ‘fry them’ with the next trick.
It’s all just fun at the end of the day.
The only exception to this is when I am working on brand new material. Often, in my eagerness, I show it to Cait and the kids before I should. When they work out a new trick, I am not a happy daddy! They have got smart too, so it’s a challenge to get past them. I feel sorry for the magicians that will perform to them in years to come!
