Where to start? Ok, I’m married, with three daughters. I know, I know, you are right. I do look far too young to have three kids. It’s often said. Often!
Recently, while I clearing out some boxes, I found an old book that my mum and dad filled in throughout my school years. Each page was actually a pocket. Each pocket held works of art (true masterpieces!) from that year of school, and the back of each page had information about little old me from that age. Information such as what I liked, what I did, and what I wanted to be when I grew up. Imagine my surprise when I looked on that back of the page for age six. For what I wanted to be when I grew up, my mum had circled Footballer and Artist. Then she had written underneath “Magician“.
This was amazing to me. Firstly because I can never remember wanting to be a footballer. And secondly because I couldn’t believe that I was so young when I decided to be a magician. I guess I never wanted to do anything else.
Although my dad isn’t a Magician, I do remember him showing me my first magic trick. It was a card trick that blew me away. I still perform a variation of it to this day. Another memory is seeing a Street Magician on a market stall performing magic with a special pack of cards. As a young boy, this was just mind blowing. First all of the cards were different, then they were all the same. How on earth!?
Damian Surr – Master Magician
My teenage years were where it all went
wrong right. I stumbled upon a magic shop in Sheffield which is home, every Saturday, to the best magicians in the north of England. This was a training ground like no other and my weekly tuition and obsession began.
I spent my teenage years perfecting sleight of hand techniques and my 20’s learning the skills needed to perform my magic to audiences. I am now the perfectly well rounded individual you see before you!
What else Mr Damian Surr?
When not performing, my favourite way to spend time is skiing. After discovering the slopes relatively late I did a couple of ski seasons when I was young free and single. A couple of years ago, we took the whole family out skiing for a season! The kids even went to school in France for four months and had skiing for their PE lessons. What a winter!
In years gone by, I was also a successful animator. My speciality was in CG (computer generated) 3D Character animation. This mouthful basically means that I animated characters like the ones you see in Toy Story. My work was mainly used in kids TV series and a hand full of short films. There’s more info here for anyone interested.
That’s probably enough about me. Tell me about you!
