A sleight of hand magician will perform incredibly complicated feats with every day objects. The ‘trick’ is to make this effortless and invisible!
Sleight of hand is the main passion that consumed my teenage years. It’s incredible to witness a magician perform a secret move imperceptibly. The sense of accomplishment when you can replicate this yourself is what got me hooked on magic. It wasn’t until my 20’s that I turned my focus on how to perform these feats in an entertaining way. Turning sleight of hand into an entertaining performance.
But what exactly doe a sleight of hand magician do? Well, here’s one way of looking a it …
Juggling without approval
A jugglers job is to perform incredible feats that look progressively more and more impressive, until the audience is in rapturous applause. A sleight of hand magician will put the same amount of time and effort into learning a single ‘move’. However, the better the action is performed, the more invisible it becomes. So, an incredible juggler has an audience on it’s feet in respect of the time and dedication put into achieving their big finale. The skilful sleight of hand magician has to be internally satisfied that the ‘move’ was performed imperceptibly.
So what keeps a sleight of hand magician going?
Luckily, the pay off at the end is worth while. If we can pull off the secret move (under scrutiny and without any suspicion) then the revelation at the end of the effect will be completely impossible.
I’m getting far too technical, but it’s because I love sleight of hand magic. A large chunk of my life had been devoted to perfecting it. And I eagerly track down the best sleight of hand magicians in the world to find the latest and greatest.
As a sleight of hand magician, I entertain with moments of impossibility that happen right under your nose.
